Tulip Grove Elementary: 2nd - 4th Grade

When I think of Red Grooms...I think of his amazing works dealing with cities.  My 4th graders created "windows" into apartment buildings.  We created our city street in one of our main hall ways.

3rd grade looked at Dali Salad.  They created self portraits with their head being on a bed of their fav. food. This was done in tempera paint.

2nd grade looked at Ruckus Taxi. They created mixed media taxi using collage & marker.

The sculptures are from the 3rd graders. We used Traffic as our inspiration. Materials included: foam core, markers, model magic, and poster board. The vehicles in profile are the work of 2nd graders. Materials included: markers, scissors, and pictures of vehicles.  1st grade Red Grooms inspired paintings with crayon and marker. These were inspired by Red Grooms'  Sunflowers near Menerbes. The inspiration work was Ruckus Taxi. The chair multi media collage with leaf rubbings are by our kindergarteners. We stenciled chairs and glued leaf rubbings to crayon colored backgrounds. Autumn was our inspiration. Red Grooms' Dali Salad was the inspiration for our 4th grade imaginary creature salad. We used paper, scissors, white glue and plastic bowls.

Meigs Academic Magnet: 6th Grade

Art Teacher: Jan Hatleberg

Dodson Elementary: 2nd - 4th Grade

The Artist Salad art (on the bulletin board) was created by 2nd graders.  They studied photos of artists, then created their own artist salad.

The realistic and exaggerated people were created by 3rd Graders.  They studied various portraits by Red Grooms, then chose a real person to draw using either a realistic or exaggerated style.

The diaramas were created by small groups of 4th graders.  They studied Grooms’ diaramas, then created these.  One class created rooms in our school, and the other created places in our Hermitage neighborhood.
